How to set up email in your browser
Web mail enables you to send and receive email using only a browser. To access the web mail application, do the following:
- Start your browser.
- Go to http://mail.yourdomain.com, where yourdomain.com is the name of your domain.
- Enter the email username and password assigned to you for your Main Street Sites email account (e.g., info@yourdomain.com or director@yourdomain.com).
Although the web mail application has the advantage of not requiring any special software (except for a browser), we generally recommend that our customers use an email client like Outlook, Outlook Express or any other POP3-compliant email program.
- Most people find email programs like Outlook or Outlook Express to be more convenient to use than the web mail application.
- Email programs like Outlook and Outlook Express offer more features and functionality than the web mail application. For example, they offer better support for address list management and rich text formatting.
- By default, your web mail account is limited to 10 Mb in storage space. By using an email client like Outlook or Outlook Express, you won't bump into those limits because your mail will be removed from the mail server once it is downloaded by your email program.
- You probably already have an email program like Outlook or Outlook Express installed on your computer if you're using a Microsoft Windows operating system (e.g., Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows Vista). Similarly, Apple computers come with a built-in email program.
