Adding Referral Marketing to your Website

Adding referral marketing to your website only takes a few minutes.

  1. Enable Referral Marketing

This is done at Setup > Settings > Referral Marketing. There is an on/off switch at the top of the page for this module.  When this switch is turned off no referral codes will not be accepted on customer orders.  This can be used if you are running a program with a time limit.

  2. Select your settings for the customer providing the referral

On the same page, find the "Credit behavior for the referring customer" section.  Here you can describe the credit your referring customer should receive for a successful referral.  This benefit is optional so you do not need to award a credit to your existing customer.

  3. Select your settings for the new customer (the customer being referred)

Find the "Credit or discount for the new customer (the customer being referred)" section.  Here you can describe a discount for the order or a credit that can be used in the future.  This reward is also optional.

  4.  Review the other settings on this Referral Marketing settings page.

Note the eligibility section.  You may want to indicate that customers with demos should not be eligible for referral credits.
Note the manual review option -- you can require that nothing is awarded until you have reviewed and approved the referral in Manage > Activity > Referrals.

  5. Share referral links and/or referral codes with your customers

At the bottom of the settings page are email tokens you can put in your Main Street Sites emails. You can use either of these tokens to share referral codes with your customers. For example:

Here is your personal referral code:%referral_code%   Please share it with your friends to receive a $10 credit on future registrations!

Here is your personal referral link:%referral_code_link%   Please share it with your friends to receive a $10 credit on future registrations!

The referral code is like a coupon code -- it is entered during checkout.  The referral link sets a cookie that will enter the code automatically.  You can use whichever approach you prefer (or both).

If you are using the referral code URL, you can choose what page on your site the link should point to. This might be a special landing page that welcomes the new family or it could just be your class schedule page.

Note: the code and link are also available to your customers on the My Account page in your customer portal.

  6.  Update your referral "Thank You" notification

Your existing customer will receive a notification when one of their referrals is processed.  The notification is, "New Customer Referral (Customer)".  You will probably want to add some text thanking your customer for the referral and describing the reward (if any) they will receive.

Note: this email is only sent once the referral has been approved (if you are using the delayed approval option).
